Traditional German-style brewhouse includes four vessels, with each tank performing a brewing step. Because the boiling process is so time-consuming, breweries may install a staging tank to temporarily store a batch of filtered wort, freeing up the mash tun and lauter tun to start the next batch. Thus, in medium and large breweries, five-vessel and six-vessel brewhouses are more common.
However, for small businesses like bars and brewpubs situated on high streets where land is expensive, a four-vessel brewhouse setup has high initial investment costs and may also require reducing the table area. Therefore, we recommend using a three-vessel or less vessel brewhouse for these stores. The combined three-vessel brewhouse is the first choice of Tiantai domestic and foreign partners.
The combined 3-vessel brewhouse is a "compromise" choice between two vessels and three vessels. This is because it occupies the area of a two-vessel brewhouse, but one of the tank "stacks" the other together, allowing it to play the role of three vessels. Combined three-vessel brewhouses generally have two designs. The first type: one tank can be designed for boiling, and the other tank can be divided into upper and lower layers, with the upper layer being mashing and lautering, and the lower layer being whirlpooling. And second type: The second is that one tank can be used for mashing and boiling, and the upper layer of the other tank can be used for lautering, the lower layer can be used for whirlpool.
There are two advantages to using the combined 3-vessel brewhouse. Firstly, it saves space due to the stackable design. Secondly, it is cost-effective. Multiple brewing processes are combined into one container to achieve the brewing effect that three vessels can achieve, but requires fewer independent containers, saving money for one vessel.
However, the combined 3-vessel brewhouse also has limitations. For safety and quality of beer reasons, the batch output should not be too high. We recommend that the effective volume of the combined three-vessel brewhouse should not exceed 1000L.
In addition, considering that the store needs to supply more beer types and flavors, we match the stacked fermentation tanks according to the sales needs of our customers and place more fermenters in a limited space.
Craft beer brewing equipment selection is influenced by various factors, including available space, production needs, and budget. At Tiantai, we configure and customize a complete set of beer production lines according to the unique needs of each customer to help their craft beer business.
