Soaking barley for a long time can not improve its water content. Even if the water content of barley grain reaches a certain degree, there are not many germinated grains. This phenomenon is called water sensitivity of barley.
The following measures should be taken to make barley with water sensitivity.
① The husk, pericarp and seed coat of barley were separated.
② The method of soaking wheat in water for a long time can be used. When the soaking degree is between 32% and 35%, it can be stopped in air for a long time.
③ When soaking wheat, adding a certain proportion of potassium permanganate or hydrogen peroxide (0.1%) can strengthen the oxygen supply and improve the germination rate.
④ The water sensitive barley was heated to 45 ~ 50 ℃ for 7 ~ 9 days.
